The morning was extra special, I was prepping for a food fiesta which I will treat as “work”, and while waiting for my time to work, I thought that I might as well rev up with a cup of hot something, or a large tumbler of cold something smoothie.

Perfect! We get to meet at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, the agenda for the day just started falling nicely into place. I’m either a Figaro or Starbucks go-er, but because the boss said so, there I was at 9AM, enjoying the UP-Ayala Land Techno hub’s zen-like morning.

Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf UP-Ayala Technohub is located along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City, Philippines. It is very accessible to motorists and commuters coming from different places or Cities in Metro Manila. So, that means you and your friends can hang-out and checkout this go-to place in the area. There are other restaurants nearby, and one of them, also one of my favorite restaurant I used to dine in, Kanin Club. I've also have a blog for Kanin Club which you may visit in this blog post

It’s not typical of me to look forward to waking up at 6, but dragging myself to a place that’s over four kilometers away from my warm, ruffled bed with my husband in his (you get the picture) did seem to have its perks. I gained new-found faith, a jolted appetite, and lo and behold, a large tumbler of the queer green gooey from the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf bar (apparently my rather normal bubble green tea projected itself weird to a curious passer-by). I shared that funny experience at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf’s page for hilarious overheard stories at https://www.coffeebean.com

For a full context, here’s how it happened:

I was still, sitting on one of the woven cots outside the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf store and watching some kid with his skateboard tricks. I had my notebook, doodling away, planning for the day, the blended Gen Mai Cha Green Tea with whipped cream at my disposal. To me, proper morning coffee should be served dark and steaming hot and it won’t do me good if I swigged another dose of espresso that’s cloaked in skimmed milk, so my preferred alternative was a cold, organic, decaffeinated infusion.

The Gen Mai Cha Green Tea tasted of wheatgrass, much like the Green Tea Latte which I have as a Starbucks usual. The only difference is that this concoction from Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf seemed to taste stronger, I could’ve sworn that it hinted of oolong tea. Anyway, with that in pounded ice and a swirl of whipped cream, I’m lost in oblivion… then a question: “MISS, WHAT’S THAT YOU’RE DRINKING?”

Anne Chan: (a bit startled, but smiled, nevertheless, replying) Gen Mai Cha Green Tea.

Girl in the red sweaters: Oh, I thought Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf coffee’s changed.

Anne Chan: (laughing) No, but you can have this if you’ve had enough of caffeine.

Girl in the red sweaters: (slowly moving back to her seat, about two meters away from where I sit) Yeah. looks weird, doesn’t it? It’s green. Is it good?

Anne Chan: Yeah, I’ve given up on coffee, I’ve had this ever since.

Girl in the red sweaters: (nodding in comprehension) So it’s not a new product?

Anne Chan: I don’t think it is.

Girl in the red sweaters: Mmmm. I’ll try that one time. (smiling) Thanks!

Anne Chan: You’re welcome. (and I am happy to have upheld my strict coffee schedule)

Another minute and a friend of hers arrived. Apparently, this was the guy that she was waiting for while my Gen Mai Cha Green Tea caught her curiosity. The conversation I overheard was submitted to Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf’s page for overheard stories:

Girl in the red sweaters: Ui, you’re here! Look at that she’s having, looks weird doesn’t it? I thought their coffee’s changed! Haha. Were you late for another minute, I could be trying the same thing now.

I glanced over my shoulder and smiled at her, then the guy. He appeared to be more amused by the enthusiasm of his friend rather than by my Gen Mai Cha Green Tea.

Minutes of mumbling and off and away they went. A few minutes more of doodling and my friends had arrived too, and what else could there be but more chatting and servings of Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf’s specialty fraps and nibbles.

Coffee bean and tea leaf is indeed a special and more than just a coffee shop for me. This is where I wanna be if not always, most of the time during my off and leisure hours. I will definitely come back and keep on enjoying the ambiance and relaxing feel around this store.

Visit Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf at UP-AyalaLand Technohub Quezon City and try my favorite staple Gen Mai Cha Green Tea. It is also located near Kanin Club restaurant.
